Japanese Foundation Day

Originally taking place on New Year's Day, Japan's National Foundation Day on 11th February celebrates the tale of how the island nation came to be. According to Japanese tradition, the first emperor Jimmu and his older brother unified the island with successful campaigns that saw them go from the north of Japan to the southern most points of the island and with the help of successful military tactics made their way to the Seto Island Sea which separate the islands of Honshu and Shikoku. After which, Jimmu was crowned Emperor of Japan in 660BCE in what is now the Nara Prefecture. 11th February is a national holiday in Japan and many business take the day off and a parade is held in Japan's capital Tokyo.
