Norway Constitution Day

From 1524 to 1814, Norway and Denmark were joined together in a political union. This changed after Denmark-Norway's support of
Napoleonic France saw the loss of their (Denmark-Norway's) naval fleets due to participating in the Gunboat War. This happened as the tides
turned against Napoleonic France. This meant nearby Sweden had an opportunity to take control of Norway as the union between Denmark fell
so in an attempt at avoiding this, the Constitution of Norway was written which declared an independent Kingdom of Norway. The document was
signed on 17 May 1814 paved the way for Norway's national day, even after a 91 year union with Sweden which crumbled due to a variety of
reasons like disagreement regarding the establishment of a distinct Norwegian consular service as well as a lack of Foreign Service mission for
Norway which meant sub co-ordination to Sweden. Norway Constitution Day is celebrated with days off from work and school as well as parades being hosted and music being played at celebrations.
