Origins of Halloween
Halloween's origins date back to Celtic times when the Celts celebrated a festival called Samhain. Samhain celebrated the deceased and bonfires were burned to ward off evils spirits. It was Celtic New Year. Halloween got it's name from All Hallow's Eve, the day before All Hallows Day.
Over time it mingled with other festivals but it was only when Irish immigrants escaping the Great Irish Famine to America was when it became popular with the development of Trick or treating and Halloween parties.
